Adventure Travel - Exploring the Great Outdoors

Adventure Travel - A Comprehensive Guide to Exploring the Great Outdoors

When compared to other travel experiences, adventure travel is characterised as a kind of tourism that includes one or more of the following:

  • Physically demanding activities (often in the great outdoors)
  • A cross-cultural relationship and/or
  • Visit a far-off or unusual place

The Adventure Travel Trade Association claims that seeing various cultures and environments while staying physically active is the essence of adventure tourism.

Additionally, you can be engaged in an activity that demands a lot of work or has some level of perceived or actual risk.

For example:

  • Mountaineering
  • Trekking
  • Bungee Jumping
  • Skydiving
  • Mountain Biking
  • Cycling
  • Canoeing
  • Scuba Diving
  • White Water Rafting
  • Kayaking
  • Paragliding
  • Zip-lining
  • Hiking
  • Canyoneering
  • Sandboarding
  • Caving
  • Rock Climbing & Abseiling

When compared to many other travel options, adventure travel has the advantage of directly assisting local communities and encouraging the construction of new infrastructure.

Over the past ten years, there has been an increase in demand for adventure travel as more tourists seek out vacation options that enable them to:

  • Venture off the beaten path
  • Become more environmentally conscious and give back to your community
  • Adventure travel is less about posing for pictures or photo-editing amazing images.

Rather, it's about learning about the world as it is, encountering different cultures, and taking on new experiences all while uncovering the essential components of who you are.
Your life can and will change if you do this.

For whom is adventure travel intended?

No two adventure travellers are alike.

Anybody may travel with adventure, regardless of age, fitness level, or desire for the next big rush in life.

Adventure travel encompasses a wide range of activities that can be undertaken anywhere in the world.

Some adventure travel experiences are "softer" (i.e., involve activities deemed less intense or risky), while others are more severe and call for you to push yourself beyond your comfort zone or assume some risk.

After I've defined adventure travel, let's have a look at some of the top locations for you to mark off your bucket list!

Six Places to Go on an Adventure Travel Bucket List!

I've discovered that you may find adventure practically anywhere in the world when travelling.

But just like anything else, some places always stand out due to their superior communities, scenery, and/or infrastructure, which allow for more exciting and adventurous encounters.

These are my top 6 picks for adventure travel locations, which will either actively explore nature or provide you with the much-needed adrenaline rush.

Please let me know if you have any more that you believe I should add to the list!

African Adventure Travel

Africa was undoubtedly one of those destinations that stood out to me during my travels. There is a certain aura about it that is unique to this place.

The impression that anything can happen to you or that you'll encounter something unusual.

"TIA," as they say a lot. LOOK, THIS IS AFRICA.

For those who are interested in experiencing extreme adventures, Africa offers an abundance of options for adventurous travel.

Africa offers a plethora of experiences, such cage shark diving, 4X4 driving over sand dunes, leaping off the highest bridge in the world, and even going on a safari trip to see the Big 5.

Here are a few of the several adventure travel pursuits available in Africa:

Australia Adventure Travel

Given that this is my native nation, I might be a little biassed. But there is genuinely a tonne of excitement and adventure to be experienced on this enormous island.

Discover the world's oldest rainforests, reefs, and deserts—Australia has some of the most remarkable natural wonders.

  • The following are a few of the top adventure activities available in Australia:
  • Go snorkelling and diving at the Great Barrier Reef.
  • Rent a campervan and travel around Tasmania by land.
  • Take a walk across Cape Tribulation and visit the Daintree rainforest in Queensland.

  • Explore Uluru's crimson centre and spend the night beneath the stars in the Northern Territory
  • Visit one of the many beaches on Australia's east coast to pick up surfing skills.
  • Take a skydive over Victoria's well-known wine districts and beaches.

Inquire about water rafting in Queensland and its environs by picking up a paddle.
In all honesty, Australia offers a plethora of activities. I regret not having the time to enumerate them all for you at this time.

Australia boasts a rich history in addition to adventure sports. According to some estimates, Aboriginal people are the earliest surviving ancestors of the first humans who left Africa up to 75,000 years ago.

According to a DNA analysis, the indigenous people of Australia might have the world's oldest continuously existing culture.

Whoa!

The availability of bungy jumping may be one restriction you face when visiting Australia. This exhilarating adventure sport is now only available in Cairns.
If you are adamant about bungy jumping, I advise you to hop, skip, and jump all the way to New Zealand. This is the area with lots of opportunities for bungee jumping.

I will elaborate on this further below.

Travelling with Adventure in New Zealand

New Zealand, one of the world's greatest adventure capitals, is situated directly adjacent to Australia.

New Zealand is well known for its adventure tourism and has some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth.

You will undoubtedly discover an activity that will make you laugh uncontrollably as well as terrify the living daylights out of you.

  • Just in Queenstown, you can indulge in skydiving and jet boating.
  • Riding a horse
  • Leaping from a bungy
  • Hang Gliding
  • Cycling in the mountains
  • Four-wheel drive, off-roading, and white-water rafting

Other fantastic adventure activities available in New Zealand are:

You can attempt the following fantastic adventure activities in New Zealand:

North American Adventure Travel

In addition to Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, North America is a fantastic place for adventure travel.

For individuals like myself who lack geographic literacy, North America is made up of:

  • Canada
  • Mexico, the USA, and Greenland. as per Google, anyhow.
To tell the truth, I was taken aback. I had no idea that Greenland was a part of the United States.

You can engage in a plethora of thrilling activities in this continent, such as:
Riding a mountain bike across South Lake Tahoe, California; canyoneering in Moab, Utah

  • Taking your first flight lesson in aerobatics over Las Vegas
  • Off the coast of Mexico, scuba diving
  • Costa Rican volunteer work
  • Kayaking in British Columbia, Canada, alongside whales
  • Ice fishing or dog sledding in Greenland
  • In Alaska, spend a night beneath the stars taking in the breathtaking Northern Lights.

Journeying through South America

It's time to discuss South America now.

Actually, my next travel location on my bucket list is South America. I am really excited to visit there the following year, if COVID makes things more bearable.

What a fantastic location for an expedition.

I have some exciting news for you, my friend, if you love adventure travel and South America isn't already on your bucket list.

One of the world's top adventure travel places, in my opinion, is South America.

While traversing the continent, you can see the deserted city of Machu Picchu and hike the well-known Inca trek through the Andes highlands.

  • Spend the night and purify in the Amazon jungle surrounded by nature.
  • Visit the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador to see a wide variety of unique plant and animal species that are only found there.
  • 4WD across Bolivia's white wildness, the salt flats
  • Experience paragliding over Peru's capital, Lima.
  • Travel to the edge of the planet to witness Argentina's and Chile's polar glaciers.

Apart from adventure sports, South America boasts an incredibly diverse cultural landscape.

You can immerse yourself in the community in a variety of ways to see the nation from their perspective.

It could be going to a women's cooperative, volunteering in the neighbourhood, taking a street Latin dance class, or even enrolling at a nearby school to study Spanish.

After seeing South America, I'm sure you won't be disappointed, no matter what you decide to do.
